008. HOLY AS I AM HOLY
The word, “holiness,” feels so heavy. It carries a weightiness. It almost seems archaic to us. However, it is who we are meant to really be. It is not the distorted picture we often imagine of some stoic and joyless person setting around doing nothing but read their bible and pray. However, holiness does stoke a longing to just spend time with the Lord and in His word. The meaning of holiness is to be set apart, or other, but not removed from this life, otherwise we might as well just go to heaven now. No! You and I are here for a reason, and part of that reason is found in Leviticus 20:26. It reads, “You are to be holy to me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own” (20:26). You and I are meant to be set apart as His, so that the world around us will know who’s we are.
I know as believers we say, “I only want God!” Yet, I know we sometimes subtly or not so subtly begin to seek other things, and before we knows it, our identity is wrapped up in that thing. We are not perfect, but we have been given the nature of Christ, and so we can be more like Him. You are a son and daughter of the HOLY ONE! You can live a HOLY life. It is possible. It is not just for the seemingly elite, navy seals of christendom. You are a dwelling place for the HOLY Spirit. Everywhere you place your feet is HOLY ground, because you are HOLY, set apart for the Lord. You are not who you think you are. You are more! You are the new temple of the Living God, and a HOLY Priest (1 Peter 2:5). Do not believe the lie that holiness is too hard for you, because it’s not you that makes you holy, but the Holy One dwelling in you. He will give you holy desires, thoughts, words, and actions. It is not something you work for but ask for as your birthright, and then live out by faith.
The Lord, clearly tells us we are to be set apart from others, as His own (Leviticus 20:26). Fitting in is overrated. In life, many of us longed to be accepted, and like someone we thought was cooler than us or more popular. However, the truth is you and I were never meant to be someone else. You were designed to be the original you filled with the one true God. Even in the things we create, we look at what is working for someone else and mimic it. You were meant to be set apart even in what you birth, creatively. Ultimately, you are to be the unique and HOLY you, in such a way that the world would know beyond a shadow of a doubt who’s you are. As a believer, your true nature is holiness, because the One dwelling inside you is HOLY.
