When was the last time you made a decision based solely on faith? I don’t mean weighing the pros and cons and then acting. I am talking about stepping out on what the Lord has told you, while everyone else thinks you’re crazy! In chapter 11 of Hebrews, there is a list of great people of faith and every one of their stories begins with the phrase, “It was by faith...” Each one more amazing than the last! Verse 6 reads, “It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him” (11:6). What is the story the Lord wants to tell through your life that cannot begin till it starts with the phrase, “it was by faith...”

In Matthew 14, the disciples see Jesus walking out on the water. He calls to them from the storm and they are beyond terrified. He tells Peter to come out to Him on the water. The Lord calls him to something that I am sure seemed insane to the other disciples. They were probably all telling him, “If you go out there you will drown!” Peter doesn’t listen to the seemingly “realistic” voices around him. Rather, he steps out in faith and begins to walk on water! However, he quickly gets distracted by the wind and waves and begins to sink. Jesus grabs peter by the hand, pulls him up, and says, “you have so little faith...Why did you doubt me?” (14:31). Don’t get sidetracked by other voices. You will know when this happening because you will start to sink and feel anxiety from the temporary concerns swirling around you. Simply listen for the voice of your Father calling from the unknown and go to where He is.

There was a time in my life when I believed I heard the voice of the Lord calling me to something new and little scary. I had been a worship leader for a church for years, had a great salary and was climbing the corporate church ladder. However, something inside me just felt off. Somewhere along the way I stopped following the voice that radically transformed my life, and I had settled for following all the right rules. During this time, I begin to go off to fast and pray more and just tune my ears to God. Eventually, I believed He was calling me to leave my position at my church, in order to write songs, travel leading worship, and bring many to Christ through my testimony (Disclaimer: I am not telling everyone to leave their church! Lol!). At the time, I had no idea where to start and I had zero connections, in the music industry. However, BY FAITH, I begin to take one terrifying step after another, until I begin to see the promises of God fulfilled, in my life.

The best fruit is often the furthest out on the limb. Your destiny isn’t found in following some safe equation like a+b=c. It is found on the other side of something that will likely seem uncertain and scary, because it will take faith! I have heard it said that faith is spelled R-I-S-K. If it doesn’t cost you something it’s probably not worth much. What is He calling you too that you have buried, because of the voices and opinions of others? Perhaps, it’s your own fears and opinions that have kept you sidelined? Today, ask the Lord what He is calling you too"? Also, ask for the faith to take the first step, because your real story can only start with the phrase, “It was by faith...”
